February 2026
February was a busy month on Clay Street. In many ways, KZYX's new home is looking and feeling more like a real radio station headquarters. We now have furniture in the studios! It might seem like a simple improvement but it is quite complicated to get the right furniture that can bear the load of equipment, not heat up and allow for a good work flow. Furniture specialists Matt and Ray came in on February 19 to do the job.
The building now has a functional employee restroom, and the remaining window coverings have been installed.
While great progress is being made, we're not just building offices, we are building a state of-the-art broadcast facility, so there is still a ways to go. The studio furniture is a great addition, but we still need to purchase, install and test all the equipment. That will be a costly and time consuming process. In addition to that, there are still quite a few big ticket items that need to be completed before a Certificate of Occupancy will be issued by the city of Ukiah.
These include:
Erect the tower
Trenching and gas pipe replacement by PG&E to widen site gas line to meet generator specifications
Pour concrete pad for the generator
Trench in order to connect power to the generator, the parking lot lights, and Building Two
Purchase and install antennas and coax cables
Build ADA parking space and the sidewalks
Install low voltage and ethernet cabling
Exterior painting
Landscaping per city and permit specifications
